EAL (English as an Additional Language) department
- The main aim of our department is to support every EAL student, so they are able to develop their English and access the curriculum
- We provide the opportunity to gain an extra qualification: ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages), which is designed to help learners to develop English and build confidence in using English.
Provision
- We offer in-class support, where we support EAL students during their lessons in all subjects, to allow them to participate and follow the lesson
- We provide a keyword book for the low level EAL students to create a word bank of words which will help the students to access the subject specific vocabulary
- EAL intervention sessions, which are designed to help learners develop their English during a specifically tailored lesson, to strengthen the students’ reading, writing, listening and speaking skills in English and help provide them with basic language skills required to succeed in their other subjects.
