Sixth Form - Student Leadership Team

The sixth form student leadership team welcomes you to Christopher Whitehead Sixth Form.  The student leadership team meets weekly to discuss everything from the evolution of the sixth form to arranging student social and charity events.  We are responsible for representing the student voice and liaising between the student body and the Head of Sixth Form to ensure that the sixth form is a happy, thriving environment with a work/life balance.

So far this year, we have:

• Carried our extensive reviews into both the enrichment and Impetus programme. The enrichment programme and Impetus calendar have been developed according to our student feedback.  A copy of our enrichment and Impetus report is available by request from the student leadership team.
• Represented the sixth form at school leadership team and Governing Body meetings.
• Promoted the sixth form at other institutions.
• Worked with the Head of Sixth Form to evaluate and develop the sixth form tutor model.
• Raised hundreds of pounds for Footsteps, the sixth form charity.
• Run themed fortnights raising awareness of LGBTQ+ and mental health.
• Participated in the tendering of the sixth form catering contract.
• Established a sixth form garden area with benched seating for relaxing and revising.
• Developed Iris, the sixth form student magazine.
• Supported lower school staff and students.
• Arranged a number of student social events.

Sixth Form Student Leadership Team

The Student Leadership Team sees a renewed plan for student leadership of the Sixth Form. It will take the most enthusiastic and willing candidates to support our Sixth Form and oversee the activities and goings on of the school. The Student Leadership Team will have real responsibilities in areas such as charity, communications and diversity, where they will be expected to represent and communicate their field of leadership.

The Role of Head Students

As a Head Student, you will oversee the Student Leadership meetings (weekly) and endure that everything is going to plan, and all roles are being fulfilled. You will get involved in school events such as open evenings, and act as representatives for the school. Like the Deputies – see below – you will be assigned a house and topic area such as diversity or charity. There will be two Head Students, only Y13 can apply.

The Role of Deputies

The four Deputy Students will be responsible for overseeing their specific portfolio which will be assigned between the leadership team in the first meeting. As deputies you will need to work together and will also be assigned a lower schoolhouse to oversee.

Application Process

To apply for a position on the Student Leadership team, you need to make a word document and answer the following questions: Why do you want the role? What are your relevant skills and experience? What is one concrete change you would make and how would it be delivered? Ensure that your applications do not exceed 350 words and email this to Mrs Gough (l.gough@cwlc.email) with your name attached. When writing your application, specify whether you are going for the role of head, deputy or whether you are happy with either.
